  • California sealion

California sealions have external ear flaps in contradistinction to the true seals, thus they belong to the family Otariidae (eared seals). Males are significantly larger and have much darker brown colour than females. Males grow a large crest of bone on the top of their heads as they reach sexual maturity. Despite their heavy and cylindrical body, they are very agile and capable of quick movement on land.
