The Capybara – also known as „water pig” – is the largest extant rodent in the world. Capybaras are excellent swimmers and divers, they are able to remain submerged for up to 5 minutes, without emerging to the water surface for oxygen. Capybaras live in mixed groups, ruled by a dominant male. Male specimens mark their territory with the secretion produced by the scent gland located on their snout.
