A few Bactrian camel specimens can be found in the nature, too, the wild populations live in the Gobi Desert. The Bactrian camel has been domesticated 3500 years ago – the domesticated specimens can be found all over Central Asia -, it is a very important pack animal, but its meat, hair and fur are also utilized. After a lengthy thirst, Bactrian camels are able to drink up to 110 liters of water in 10 minutes. When well fed, their humps are plump and erect, while when their fat stores deplete the humps shrink and lean to the side.
